Another Tip by Nuell, Inc. on How to Keep Your Hand Pieces in Top Shape

February 24, 2014

Disinfectant wipes are very common in OMS practices, and are often used to assist in cleaning hand pieces prior to sterilization.  Nuell, Inc. has found that some of the wipes being used are causing damage to your hand pieces.  This is due to the PH level being too high. The higher the PH level, the harsher the chemicals are in wipes, which is causing the material in hand piece housings to crack over time.

Most of the time you will find that OEM user manuals provide a recommended PH level between 7.5 and 10.5 that is safe for using on hand piece housings.  Please notice that some wipes have a PH level as high as 12.49 exceeding the recommended level.

Based on this information, Nuell, Inc. would like to recommend that if you use disinfectant wipes to assist in cleaning your hand pieces, please use a wipe that has the appropriate PH level needed to kill pathogens but, is still safe on your hand piece housing.  This will save you time and money in the future!
